About Me
I have had extensive experience working as a Psychotherapist and Art Therapist since 1996, after having completed a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology from York University and a Graduate Diploma in Art Therapy from the Toronto Art Therapy Institute. I am a Registered member of the Ontario Art Therapy Association, and as such my work is guided by a Code of Ethics and by Standards of Professional Practice. Over the past 17 years, I have worked in a variety of settings, including schools, multidisciplinary centres, hospitals and private practice.
I work with children, adolescents, and adults in individual, family and group therapy sessions. In my work with clients, I use talk therapy, art therapy or a combination of both, depending on the needs and goals of each session. I have found that the art often aids in communication during the therapy process, helping bring light to issues that are sometimes hidden or difficult to discuss initially. Furthermore, incorporating creative expression into a session can allow for greater clarity, self-discovery, awareness and insight, that is not always found in talk therapy alone.
My approach to therapy is to help clients address and explore their issues and concerns, and work together to develop skills and strategies towards achieving their goals, and a greater quality of life. This may include improving interpersonal skills, resolving conflicts, strengthening relationships, reducing stress, increasing self-esteem and self-awareness, managing emotions and behaviours, and enhancing or learning new coping strategies.
I use an eclectic approach, including elements of cognitive behaviour therapy, solution focused therapy, and pychodynamic therapy. I specialize in working with those dealing with anxiety, depression, stress, highly sensitive nature, eating disorders, separation and divorce, school and work-related issues, family and relationship concerns, behavioural and emotional issues, and self-esteem and confidence building.
