Registered Psychotherapist, CCC

Welcome and thank you for visiting me at the Mt. Pleasant Therapy Site!!!!

If you think that you might benefit from seeing a therapist to help you move forward in your life, I may offer the kind of support you need. I collaboratively work with clients who are facing many different types of challenges. Here are some of the things that I can help you with:

  • ADHD and self-esteem
  • executive functioning weaknesses resulting from ADHD-related issues in adults
  • ADHD and marriage
  • Attachment and trauma related issues getting in the way of healthy friendships and relationships
  • General self-esteem challenges
  • Life transitions, including separation, divorce, empty nest, midlife, and career changes
  • Anxiety and depression

Do any of these challenges resonate with you?  Then if so, read on to understand a bit more about me and how I work with clients!!

About me
Psychotherapy is my second career, and that makes me stronger as a therapist. That’s because, in addition to my academic qualifications and clinical training, my own lived experiences as a daughter, a wife and mother, a student, an employee and an entrepreneur help me relate to my clients in so many meaningful ways.

Clients relate to my sense of humour, empathy, and desire for growth as a person and as a therapist. And they value my ability to get to the root of the issue and expertise in both practical problem-solving and supporting clients’ growth.

My approach:  Strength-based therapy
All of us have gifts, but I have observed that many of us take our gifts for granted. By learning to pay attention to your strengths, you will begin to see possibilities for the future instead of focusing on past or present challenges. A strength-based perspective empowers you to make changes in your life, armed with the knowledge that you already possess the tools you need to move forward.

A client-centred, collaborative approach
I strongly believe that you need to play an active role in setting the goals and direction of your therapy. In order to get positive outcomes from therapy, you must play a leading role in the process, because you are the expert on your own life. I will use tools and techniques to help you gain insight and to experience those “aha” moments that lead to increased self-awareness and positive change.

A variety of therapeutic tools and approaches
My training includes solutions-focused therapy, positive psychology, brief therapy, narrative therapy, and cognitive behaviour therapy.  The common goal of these approaches is to help you find a different way of looking at a challenging situation — from a more empowered point of view. Since I believe that all these approaches have their merits, I do not stick to one approach. A variety of techniques can be used, based on your needs and your unique situation.

Time-sensitive therapy
I believe that the number of sessions does not necessarily determine the success of the therapy. My own experience of offering single sessions at mental health walk-in clinics bears this out. Research also shows that just a few sessions can provide a tremendous amount of benefit. Many life challenges or transitions may require only a couple of sessions to help you gain a different perspective and develop a plan of action.

Specializations
I enjoy working with individuals who have ADHD — I am intrigued by the challenges and the strengths that come with this disorder. I also enjoy working with clients who are in a period of transition. While I understand how frightening such times can be, I can also see the tremendous opportunity for growth offered by these changes.
